Luxury lodge lake district stays by the water
Our Heritage
Beyond the peaceful lake views lies a storied history of industrial innovation. Millom was once a global hub of industry, home to the world’s most productive iron mine. Following the opening of the Ironworks in 1866, the region flourished, employing thousands and leading to the 1905 construction of the Outer Barrier to protect the town from the sea.
After the mines closed in 1968, a tranquil new chapter began. Although industry has faded, the resilient and friendly spirit of our community lingers. Today, that legacy lives on in the warm, welcoming coastal atmosphere you will enjoy throughout your stay with us.
